Tijuana Mexico Temple Groundbreaking Date Announced
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Tijuana Mexico Temple will take place on August 18, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific daylight time, the Temple Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced this week.
The ceremony will be broadcast via satellite to stake centers in the temple district, which includes 10 stakes and one mission, with membership totaling more than 30,000.
President Thomas S. Monson announced the temple at general conference on October 2, 2010. At that time he said, “The ordinances performed in our temples are vital to our salvation and to the salvation of our deceased loved ones. May we continue faithful in attending the temples, which are being built closer and closer to our members.”
This will be the Church’s 13th temple in Mexico and will greatly alleviate the difficulties local Saints currently face in traveling to the San Diego California Temple, which requires that they cross the U.S.-Mexico border.
