Lesson 2: Obey the Commandments and Standards
Introduce the Principle
Jesus Christ set the perfect example of obedience and submission to Heavenly Father’s will (see John 6:38). Our obedience to the commandments is an expression of our love for God and Jesus Christ (see John 14:15). The Lord revealed in our day that obedience to the commandments leads to blessings from God (see Doctrine and Covenants 130:20–21). A true leader obeys the Lord’s commandments so she can be a light for others, obtain blessings, and be worthy to receive guidance from the Holy Ghost (see Doctrine and Covenants 121:45-46).
Learn Together
- Think of someone you know who inspires you with his or her obedience to gospel principles. What does that person do that inspires you to obey?
- Why is it important for a leader to strive to be obedient?
- In what ways can you, as a class presidency, “model” obedience to your class members?
Live What We Are Learning
What are some of the standards you are seeing your young women have difficulty living? What could you do as a leader to help them? Counsel together with your class presidency and Young Women leaders about how you can encourage each other to obey “with exactness” (see Alma 57:21).
