Two Temple Square missionaries record part of a virtual tour that will be shared with the public in place of the traditional in-person experience for visitors that wish to see the Salt Lake Temple's surrounding area during the Christmas season in November 2020.

Walk the Grounds and Gardens of Temple Square

Feel inspired while walking the grounds of Temple Square. View the architecture of the temple and other historic buildings, and walk through carefully manicured gardens.

Take an elevated look at the current seismic renovation work of the Salt Lake Temple. View the north side of the temple, including a look at the foundation work and installation of a seismic system.

Marvel in the history of the Church by learning about or exploring historic buildings such as the Salt Lake Tabernacle (1867), the Assembly Hall (1882), the Beehive House (1854), and the Lion House (1856).

Christmas on Temple Square

Join us as we celebrate Jesus’s birth on Temple Square. Enjoy lights, musical performances, The Christ Child film experience, and more. The lights on Temple Square turn on the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and remain on until January 1.

Statue of Jesus Christ

Spend time reflecting and feeling the peace of the Savior Jesus Christ as you view a replica of the sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen’s famous Christus statue. Statues are located in the Conference Center and the North Visitors’ Center.

Salt Lake Temple History Experience

Explore original photos, artifacts, and information about the Salt Lake Temple’s original construction. Take a look over the Conference Center third-floor observation deck to view the north side of the Salt Lake Temple seismic renovation project.

Salt Lake Temple Artifacts and Scale Model

Get a close-up view of the interior of the Salt Lake Temple with a 3D cutaway model of the Salt Lake Temple. The model shows what the temple looked like inside before the seismic renovation began in 2020. Enjoy additional artifacts such as tools used to build the temple and original temple furnishings.

Experience peace as you view multiple exhibits showcasing artwork of the Savior Jesus Christ as recorded in the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon. Artwork also depicts the lives and faith of those who have followed Him throughout time. 

The Heavens Are Opened

The Heavens Are Opened

This exhibit provides experiences showcasing Joseph Smith’s First Vision and the translation of the Book of Mormon. The exhibit covers events through Joseph Smith’s martyrdom and the Latter-day Saints’ subsequent preparations for westward migration. Located in the Church History Library.

Temples Dot the Earth

Bring your children to this Church History Museum exhibit designed for children ages 1 to 11. This hands-on experience allows children to learn about temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, inside and out.

The camera looks in at the 'Mormon Trails' exhibit. You see the majority of the exhibit from this view You can see the drawings on the walls of the exhibit. You start with a boat, then the title of the exhibit, and then pictures of the pioneers and wagons wrapping around. Inside the exhibit you see different cases and displays making a U shape. There are brown chairs that look like they are fabric barrels. In the middle of the exhibit is a wheel. There are visitors in some of the shots.

Mormon Trails

Wander through this exhibit at the Church History Museum to discover the trails and stories of the Latter-day Saint pioneers who traveled to the Salt Lake Valley between 1846 and 1890.

Joseph Smith's Journal

Foundations of Faith

Examine some of the earliest records from the Church in the Foundations of Faith exhibit. Records include journals, pamphlets, manuscripts, letters, hymnals, and more. Located in the Church History Library.
