Elder Matthew S. Holland
Elder Matthew S. Holland was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 4, 2020, at age 53. At the time of his call, he had been serving as president of the North Carolina Raleigh Mission.
Elder Holland received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Brigham Young University in 1991. In 1992 he spent an academic year at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a Raoul Wallenberg Scholar. He received a master of arts degree and a doctor of philosophy degree in political science from Duke University in 1997 and 2001, respectively. He worked as an associate professor of political science at Brigham Young University from 2001 to 2009. He then served as president of Utah Valley University from 2009 until 2018, when he was called to serve as a mission president.
Elder Holland has served in a number of Church callings, including full-time missionary in the Scotland Edinburgh Mission, ward Sunday School teacher, high councilor, counselor in a bishopric, ward mission leader, bishop, and ward Young Men adviser.
Matthew Scott Holland was born in Provo, Utah, on June 7, 1966. He married Paige Anita Bateman in 1996. They are the parents of four children.
