Beginning with the January 2011 issues of The Friend and Liahona, parents will find ways to reinforce at home what their children learn in Primary. “Sharing Time,” originally designed to help Primary leaders plan weekly Sharing Time lessons, has become “Bringing Primary Home” and is designed for children and their parents to use at home.
The change began in 2010 when the “Sharing Time Ideas” segment was dropped from the section and the material became more focused on helping children implement at home what they learn in Primary. Because the section was still titled “Sharing Time,” this led to confusion for Primary leaders. The “Sharing Time” title also confused many parents, who didn’t realize that the section was intended to be used by their children. Accordingly, with approval from the General Primary Presidency, the title was changed to “Bringing Primary Home.”
“Bringing Primary Home” is now focused mainly on children and includes activities that can further children’s understanding of the month’s Primary theme. Parents can review the material to be aware of what their children are learning in Primary. The material from this section can also be used by children and their parents for family home evening lessons and activities.
The monthly themes for “Bringing Primary Home” will be taken from an enhanced Sharing Time outline that is being distributed to Primary leaders to use in 2011.
