Church Celebrates 170 Years in French Polynesia

South Pacific Saints recently commemorated the 1844 arrival of the Church’s first missionaries, Addison Pratt, Noah Rogers, and Benjamin Grouard, in French Polynesia.
Activities May 23–24 ncluded a torch relay around the entire island of Tubuai, a parade, workshops and presentations, and a cultural night.
More than 10,000 people attended the cultural night, which included many mayors and town representatives. Elder James J. Hamula of the Seventy said, “From the first missionaries and early members of the Church in the Pacific, we have inherited a legacy of faith, testimony, and sacrifice.”
