“I witness that if we follow His footsteps, we may become like Him, which can only happen through His name and His Atonement.”

In a video produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Ulisses Soares invites us to keep the spirit of Christmas all year and become more interested in others than in ourselves.

Elder Soares’s video, titled “We Can Follow Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace,” is part of the Special Witnesses of Christ series, which presents the testimonies of each of the 15 living prophets and apostles called as special witnesses of the Savior. The videos are found in the left column on prophets.ChurchofJesusChrist.org and in the Gospel Media web page and app under the category Prophets and Apostles.

In the video, Elder Soares, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, recounts scriptural accounts from prophets about the coming of the Savior to the world and the testimonies borne by the shepherds “who were chosen as the first special witnesses.”

“We can all join those shepherds . . . as we daily glorify the Savior, who was born, lived, died, and was resurrected from the dead so that all mankind might have eternal life.”

“The Savior’s life was the personification of love and goodwill toward men. He always focused on people. . . . These selfless acts were not limited to a specific season or holiday but were evident in all He did, every day of His life.”

Elder Soares says that the Savior’s example “can help us become more interested in people and think of their needs before we think of our own.”

The Savior’s invitation to follow Him “is an invitation to turn our hearts outward and give of ourselves to people as He did,” Elder Soares says in the video. “I witness that if we follow His footsteps, we may become like Him, which can only happen through His name and His Atonement.”

Elder Soares was sustained as one of the newest members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on March 31, 2018.

A new Special Witnesses of Christ video from President Russell M. Nelson was released in August of 2018.
