Tens of thousands of Latter-day Saints celebrated the beginning of the Christmas season Sunday evening, December 6, through messages provided by Church leaders.
The First Presidency’s Christmas Devotional, a familiar tradition of many years, was delivered to a congregation gathered in the Conference Center and broadcast across the globe. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra on Temple Square performed several Christmas hymns including “For unto Us a Child Is Born” by Handel, “Noe! Noe!” and “Silent Night.”
President Thomas S. Monson presided at the event, which was conducted by President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency.
President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency; Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Elder L. Whitney Clayton of the Presidency of the Seventy; and Sister Linda K. Burton, Relief Society general president, shared Christmas messages:
Christmas Devotional: Be Thankful, Says President Uchtdorf
Christmas Devotional: Jesus Source of All Light, Elder Bednar Says
Christmas Devotional: “Fear Not” Because of the Savior, Elder Clayton Says
Christmas Devotional: “Adore” Christ and God for His Plan, Says Sister Burton
