New Temple Presidents to Begin Service This Year

Five temple presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin their service later this year.

Manila Philippines Temple

Modesto Mapagu Amistad Jr., 61, Gosi Ward, Tuguegarao Philippines South Stake, called as president of the Manila Philippines Temple, succeeding President Reynaldo L. Cuyong. President Amistad’s wife, Laura Moreno Donato Amistad, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Virginia V. Cuyong. Currently serving as an assistant area auditor, he has served as an Area Seventy, president of the Philippines Davao Mission, and stake president. A coordinator for the Church Educational System, he was born in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, Philippines, to Modesto Reosia Amistad Sr. and Victoria Mapagu Amistad.

Sister Amistad serves as a stake institute teacher. She served with her husband as he presided over the Philippines Davao Mission. She has also served in stake and district Relief Society presidencies and as stake employment specialist, ward Relief Society president, and temple ordinance worker. She was born in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, Philippines, to Angel Sumabat and Lilia Moreno Donato.

Washington D.C. Temple

Kent Winterton Colton, 70, McLean 2nd Ward, McLean Virginia Stake, called as president of the Washington D.C. Temple, succeeding President Brian C. Swinton. President Colton’s wife, Kathryn Patrice Petersen Colton, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Sue S. Swinton. President Colton serves as a high priests group leader and as a sealer in the Washington D.C. Temple. He has served as president of the Florida Tampa Mission, stake president, bishop, branch president, high councilor, and temple ordinance worker. Retired president of the Colton Housing Group LLC, he was born in Salt Lake City to Ray Charles and Zelma Elizabeth Winterton Colton.

Sister Colton serves as a Relief Society teacher. She served with her husband as he presided over the Florida Tampa Mission. She has served as ward Relief Society president, ward Young Women president’s counselor, ward Primary president, and temple ordinance worker. She was born in Hyrum, Utah, to Leland Wallace and Thelma Liljenquist Petersen.

Guayaquil Ecuador Temple

Jay Richard Fuhriman, 72, Nampa 15th Ward, Nampa Idaho East Stake, called as president of the Guayaquil Ecuador Temple, succeeding President Joseph H. Groberg. President Fuhriman’s wife, María Josefa Saunders Javier Fuhriman, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Jeanne P. Groberg. President Fuhriman has served as a counselor in the Tampico Mexico and Guayaquil Ecuador Temples. He has also served as a bishop, high councilor, high priests group leader, temple missionary, and temple ordinance worker. A retired professor of bilingual education, he was born in Nampa, Idaho, to Harold Wilford and Virginia Goold Fuhriman.

Sister Fuhriman has served as an assistant to the matron at the Tampico Mexico and Guayaquil Ecuador Temples, ward Relief Society president, in a mission Young Women presidency, ward Primary president, temple missionary, and temple ordinance worker. She was born in Agua Dulce, Veracruz, Mexico, to José Eduardo Saunders Contreras and Natividad Javier de Saunders.

Edmonton Alberta Temple

Darrell Bruce Harker, 66, Nottingham Ward, Edmonton Alberta Bonnie Doon Stake, called as president of the Edmonton Alberta Temple, succeeding President Bryce D. Card. President Harker’s wife, Janae Wright Harker, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Kathryn Card. President Harker serves in a Sunday School presidency and as a sealer in the Edmonton Alberta Temple. He has served in a stake presidency and as a bishop, high councilor, ward Sunday School president, and temple ordinance worker. A retired attorney, he was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, to Levi Ray and Beatrice Josephine Jensen Harker.

Sister Harker serves as a Relief Society compassionate service coordinator and as a temple ordinance worker. She has served as a stake and ward Relief Society president, stake and ward Young Women president, and as ward Primary president. She was born in Alameda County, California, to Leland Heiner and Margret Paine Wright.

Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple

Ralph Warren Smith Jr., 69, Mount Mahogany 5th Ward, Pleasant Grove Utah Mount Mahogany Stake, called as president of the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple, succeeding President Noel B. Reynolds. President Smith’s wife, Elizabeth Ann Rothey Smith, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Sydney S. Reynolds. President Smith has served two senior couple missions and as president of the Provo Missionary Training Center, president of the Utah Provo Mission, stake president, bishop, and temple ordinance worker. A retired assistant secretary to the State of Washington Aging and Adult Services, he was born in Salt Lake City to Ralph Warren and Ireta Payne Smith.

Sister Smith served with her husband as he presided over the Provo Missionary Training Center and over the Utah Provo Mission and twice as a senior couple missionary. She has also served as a stake Relief Society board member, ward Relief Society president, ward Young Women counselor, and ward Primary counselor. She was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to Allan Dean and Elizabeth Pallak Rothey.
