Temple Square Chorale to Perform "An Easter Concert"
The Temple Square Chorale, a training ground for members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, will perform works by Faure, Beethoven, Walton, and others during “An Easter Concert.”

The Temple Square Chorale and the Orchestra at Temple Square will present “An Easter Concert” in the Tabernacle on Temple Square at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22, and Saturday, April 23, 2011.
Mormon Tabernacle Choir Associate Music Director Ryan Murphy will direct the chorale in performing Gabriel Faure’s Requiem during the first half.
“The Faure Requiem is a beautiful meditation on light and darkness—specifically on Christ’s ability to deliver us from darkness and death,” Brother Murphy said. “Unlike other requiem settings, Faure’s work is imbued with an overwhelming ethos of peace, comfort, and faith in God’s mercy and love. It is the ideal contemplation for Easter as we celebrate the triumph of life over death.”
The second half of the program will feature smaller works by Beethoven, Walton, Gounod, Leinbach, and others as it follows the events preceding Easter, beginning with Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, following with the events of Gethsemane and Calvary, and concluding with the triumph of Easter morning.
The Temple Square Chorale was created in 1999 as an inservice program for present Mormon Tabernacle Choir members as well as a training venue for applicants to the choir. Twice a year, the chorale holds a 12-week training session for its members, which change each session. This concert is the culmination of one of this year’s training sessions.
