U.S. Members Getting Online Option for Paying Tithes and Donations
Members can still pay tithing the traditional way, but the Church's new Online Donations website provides another way for members in the United States to make their contributions to the Church.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has approved an electronic method for members in the United States to pay tithing and submit other charitable donations.
The Church Online Donations website, accessible through ChurchofJesusChrist.org, will be rolled out to congregations in the U.S. throughout 2015, and the Church will notify local leaders when it is available in their area.
According to the Church’s Finance and Records Department, the initial site not only demonstrated a simplified donation process for members but also reduced the workload on local leaders and clerks responsible for processing donations each week.
Members will continue to have the option of using traditional printed receipts and envelopes and delivering them by hand to their local priesthood leaders. The Church's new Online Donations website simply provides another way for members in the United States to make their contributions to the Church.
The website allows anyone with an LDS Account—Church member or not—to donate to the Church, which makes it convenient for friends and family members to help financially support a missionary.
Website users will be able to track the date, amount, and status of donations made during a desired date range and print either an official U.S. tax statement or general statement for personal records.
