What are the scriptures, and how can they bless your life?
The Holy Bible is an ancient book of scripture, penned and compiled by prophets and other disciples of Jesus Christ, such as Luke and Paul. Those who read it will grow closer to Jesus and feel His guidance. The Bible contains two sections—the Old Testament and the New Testament.
The Old Testament begins with the Creation of the world. It introduces God’s plan for His children and helps us understand that He has been and will always be there for us. It prophesies of the coming of the Messiah (Jesus Christ), His death, His Resurrection, and His Second Coming.
The New Testament is primarily about the life and ministry of Jesus and His disciples. It begins with His miraculous birth, includes four unique perspectives of His ministry, and highlights His sacrifice and Atonement for mankind. The Savior’s perfect example of charity, compassion, and service teaches us how to treat others and can help us strengthen relationships with loved ones.
The Book of Mormon, like the Bible, is a holy book of scripture which testifies of Christ and teaches His gospel. It tells of prophets and followers of Jesus who lived in the ancient Americas and records His promised visit to them after His Resurrection (see John 10:16). The Book of Mormon confirms what the Bible says about the Son of God and clarifies the doctrine of Jesus Christ. Both books support each other and are evidence that God lives and wants to help all of His children.
As you study the scriptures and strive to apply them to your life, you will feel the Savior’s love for you and receive divine direction for your personal trials and challenges. Missionaries can help you deepen your understanding of who Jesus is and what He’s done for you. We’ll read with you, pray with you, and talk about ways to strengthen your faith. Sign up for a visit to learn more about the life-changing blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
How to make the scriptures a daily part of your life:
- Put your Bible somewhere you’ll see it (like on your bedside table) as a reminder to read.
- Start small. Begin with a few verses each day, and build from there.
- In your prayers, ask God to help you find answers to your personal questions as you read.
