Does God Exist?

When you sincerely search for answers, you can begin to see God’s hand in your life.

Have you ever seen a virus with your own eyes? What about an electron or an oxygen molecule? Every day, you likely believe in the existence of things you haven’t seen for yourself. The evidence you feel—a runny nose when you have a cold or rush of relief when you take a breath—is enough for you to believe.

Belief in God can work in a similar way.

A physicist, geneticist, marine scientist, and microbiologist discuss how they are able to be both men of science and men of God.

Evidence of God

While some people believe the entire universe is no more than a random accident, there is evidence all around us that we’re part of something greater than that. The Book of Mormon, a book of scripture like the Bible, teaches, “All things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator” (Alma 30:44).

Science and religion work together to testify of God. Through science, you can begin to understand the incredible order and complexity of God’s creations. Through religion, you can find answers to the “why” of our existence, read the words of people who have witnessed God’s miracles, and find your own personal experiences with God’s love.

Scientists gain answers through asking questions, studying, and putting their beliefs to the test. Finding spiritual answers works the same way. It takes action. Here are some of the things you can do to know God is there.

Pray
Read
The Bible promises that “whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22). Pray sincerely to know that God is real and that He loves you. An answer may not come right away or in the way you expect, but if you persist, it will come. Answers from God come through the Holy Spirit, usually experienced through feelings or thoughts.

The scriptures are full of promises that you can put to the test, including the promise that if you put your trust in God, He will guide your life (see Proverbs 3:5-6). As you find those promises, show your faith by acting on them, and see what happens.

Look for God’s influence

The Bible promises that “all things work together for good to them that love God” (Romans 8:28). If you spend time each day thinking over what you have to be grateful for, you can begin to notice patterns in how God has helped things “work together for good” in your life.
