What are congregations?

Congregations (we call them wards) are groups of Church members who live within a specific geographic area. In a congregation, you can make friends, feel a sense of belonging, and build a support network with others in your community. Swipe below to learn about different types of congregations.

General congregations

Anyone is welcome to attend a general congregation. In a general congregation, people of all ages serve together in the Church community. Families, single adults, children, widows, and young married couples worship in the same meeting.

Young single adult congregations

Young single adult congregations are for individuals ages 18–30. These congregations are often found near college campuses and hold activities throughout the week in addition to Sunday worship services.

Single adult congregations

Single adult congregations are for individuals ages 31–45. These congregations help people to find friendships and associations with those of similar ages and interests.

Common Questions about Church Services

Do I have to participate at church?
Answer
Visitors are welcome to participate, but they are not required to. When the bread and water of the sacrament (or Communion) are distributed to the congregation, if you don’t feel comfortable participating, simply pass the tray to the next person. Other than that, feel free to sit back and just enjoy the service.

Can I participate if I’m not a member?
Answer
Yes! You are invited to join us for weekly activities, social outings, service projects, and Church services. We’d love to get to know you and will appreciate your involvement in the community.

What should I wear at church?
Answer
You’re welcome to come in any clothes you feel comfortable in. Most men wear button-up shirts and ties, women typically wear dresses or skirts, and children usually dress up too.

How long are Church services?
Answer
Each meeting is one hour. If you attend both sacrament meeting and one of the meetings for men, women, or children, you can expect services to be about two hours long.
