You are a child of God, who knows and loves you on an individual level. In His eyes, we are all equal and are worthy of love and happiness. No matter who you are or what you’ve done, your Heavenly Father wants you to reach out to Him through prayer so He can help you. As you turn to Him and follow His Son, Jesus Christ, you can experience greater joy. 

God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take upon Him the sins of everyone who would ever live so we could repent and be forgiven. The Savior also overcame death so we can live again. We all make mistakes. But if you try to be better and pray for forgiveness, you can become clean again. As you learn more about Jesus Christ and how to follow Him, you can experience the joy of God’s forgiveness. 

Our Heavenly Father sent us to earth to become more like Him—to gain a physical body and to learn and grow before someday returning to live in His presence. Life provides many opportunities to experience joy. We will also grow as we face challenges and make hard choices between right and wrong. As part of God’s plan of happiness for us, He sent us a Savior, Jesus Christ, to enable us to repent, be forgiven, and live with God and our loved ones for eternity. Understanding God’s plan and accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior can help you find more meaning and joy in life, and give you strength to face your challenges. 

The Holy Bible is a collection of sacred books written by ancient prophets and historians. It teaches us about God, Jesus Christ, and their interactions with mankind throughout history. It also outlines God’s commandments and shows us how to live and treat others.

Like the Bible, the Book of Mormon is a holy book of scripture that testifies of God and Jesus Christ. It centers on the experiences of God’s children in the Americas and details Jesus’s visit to them after His resurrection. It affirms Jesus Christ’s life, ministry, and sacrifice for us. Together, the witnesses of the Bible and Book of Mormon can deepen your understanding of your Savior and strengthen your faith in Him. 

Families are a central part of our Heavenly Father’s plan for our happiness. We aspire to strong family relationships that help us learn and grow, and for everyone to have a home where they can feel support, safety, and love. God does not want family ties to end when we die. Because of Jesus Christ, if you choose to follow God, you can be reunited with your loved ones in the next life. 

Jesus commanded His disciples to “go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). The gospel of Jesus Christ is the single most important message we could share with the world. That’s why our missionaries leave the comfort of their homes to spend up to two years of their lives helping others draw closer to the Savior. They would love to help you, too. 

When Jesus Christ was on the earth, He established a Church “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets” (Ephesians 2:20). This followed the Old Testament pattern of God calling prophets such as Moses to lead His people.

That pattern continued in 1820 when Joseph Smith entered a grove of trees to pray about which church he should join. God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him not to join any of the existing churches. Instead, through Joseph, Jesus Christ would restore His Church to the earth, complete with the priesthood authority from God that had been lost after death of Christ’s apostles. Joseph officially organized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1830. 

Temples are houses of the Lord here on earth. They are places where we go to make sacred promises with God, complete the work of salvation for our ancestors, feel the peace of the Holy Spirit, and draw closer to Jesus Christ. When couples get married in the temple, they are united for “time and all eternity.” God’s perfect mercy means no one will be denied blessings such as eternal marriage or baptism through no fault of their own. Temples make it possible for us to perform these and other ceremonies on behalf of our ancestors, which they can choose to accept in the next life. 

God is your loving Heavenly Father, and He wants to hear from you. You can reach out to Him through prayer. Prayer brings you closer to God and will help you receive personal answers to your questions. God may not always answer your prayers in the way or the timing that you might hope, but there are blessings He is waiting to give you if only you will ask in faith. 

Baptism is a covenant—or sacred promise—that you make with God. When you get baptized, you promise to serve Him and follow His commandments to the best of your abilities. In return, God promises you many blessings, including the guidance and comfort of the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness of your sins. Jesus Christ taught we must be “born of water and of the Spirit” to enter the kingdom of God (John 3:5). He set the example of being baptized by immersion in water by one who had priesthood authority from God. This is how people join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints today. 

When we sin or make poor choices, we distance ourselves from God. The good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that the Savior suffered for our sins and mistakes, making it possible for us to repent and be clean again. Because God forgives us when we make mistakes, He expects us to do the same for others. 

The gospel of Jesus Christ is the path to peace in this life and eternal joy with God and your loved ones in the life to come. Because of Jesus Christ, you can repent and be forgiven of your sins. You can live again. When you follow the Savior’s teachings and turn to Him for support, you will be strengthened through life’s difficulties, heartache, and unfairness and feel the hope that is “an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast” (Hebrews 6:19).
