Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believe in Jesus Christ and strive to follow Him. To communicate the Latter-day Saints’ faith in Jesus Christ, the Church commissioned a replica of Bertel Thorvaldsen’s original sculpture of Christ known to Latter-day Saints as the Christus statue. This marble replica was placed on Temple Square in the 1960s and was on display in the North Visitors’ Center until 2021, when it was removed for preservation.
This statue is an additional replica, which was added to the Conference Center in December 2019. This eight-foot Christus is a reminder of the New Testament scripture in Matthew 11:28: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
