Purpose
Camping, hiking, and other outdoor experiences help us enjoy the beauty of Heavenly Father’s creations and feel the peace of the Holy Ghost. When we learn outdoor skills and know how to be prepared, we can make the most of our outdoor experiences.
Goal Ideas
- Learn how to set up a tent in a yard or park.
- Learn how to cook a meal over a campfire, with charcoal, or with a portable stove. You can practice anywhere that has a fire pit or barbecue stand, such as a local park or recreational area.
- Take short walks or hikes in nature. A map, step counter, or GPS can help you measure the distance you travel. When you’re ready, plan a hike that will challenge you.
- Practice for a camping trip in a well-known, safe location. For example, you could sleep in sleeping bags in a tent in your backyard. A practice gives you the opportunity to check out your gear before you decide to take a camping trip.
Plan and complete an overnight camping trip. While you’re out in nature, take a moment to observe the beauty of God’s creations. Write down your feelings in your journal.
