Activity: Get to Know the Missionaries

Learn more about your local missionaries, what they do, and how you can help them.

Invite the full-time missionaries to visit with your group, and teach the children more about what missionaries do.

Consider playing a game to help the children get to know the missionaries better. For example, children sit in a circle, and missionaries sit in the middle of the circle. A missionary tosses a ball to a child and asks a question. The child answers the question and then tosses the ball back to the missionary. Then the child asks the missionary a question, and the missionary answers. The game continues until everyone has participated. Possible questions might include things like:

How many people are in your family?
Do you have any pets? Or what is one of your favorite animals, and why?
What is your favorite food?

Next, invite the missionaries to tell the children about their typical daily schedule, the people they are teaching, and their favorite parts of serving the Lord on a mission.

The missionaries could end by bearing their testimonies and inviting the children to pray for opportunities to talk to their friends and neighbors about the gospel.

Please adapt activities as necessary to ensure all individuals are able to participate, belong, and contribute.

Service idea: Help children write letters, draw pictures, or assemble care packages for people in your ward who are serving missions.
Service idea: Make a card or treat for the full-time missionaries serving in your ward to thank them for their service. Please adjust the activity accordingly based on food allergies that may be present with members in your congregation.

Encourage children to talk about how what they are learning can help them and others grow closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Discussions can take place before, during, or after the activity and should last just a few minutes. You could ask questions like the following:
