Would you be able to navigate to an unfamiliar place without your phone?
Back in prehistoric times, we used to have to rely on physical maps (or print out directions from a home printer!) in order to get from place to place. There was no cell phone to call a friend if you got lost on the way to their house—you would have to stop to ask a stranger for directions, or find a pay phone somewhere to call for help. Today, apps on our phones make it much easier to get around.
Likewise, Heavenly Father wants us to spiritually navigate successfully through life. But when we aren’t keeping His commandments, it’s like losing our phones and all our navigation apps. The Holy Ghost can’t reach us to direct and guide our way—just like when the Liahona “did cease to work” after Laman and Lemuel restrained Nephi (1 Nephi 18:12).
Keeping the commandments, and repenting when we mess up, is like downloading the very best navigation app. The Spirit will be our constant companion! We can recognize God’s guidance and His love much more easily.
How have you felt God’s direction in your life?
