Gospel Living

God doesn’t determine our fate.

We do!

Scripture of the Day: “And now remember, remember, my brethren, that whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto himself; and whosoever doeth iniquity, doeth it unto himself; for behold, ye are free; ye are permitted to act for yourselves; for behold, God hath given unto you a knowledge and he hath made you free.” —Helaman 14:30

It’s one thing not to know the gospel, or who God is, or what He wants from you. Plenty of people are in that situation. That’s why we do missionary work!

But once we do know the truth, we’re responsible for living by those truths.

Right now we’re reading about how the prophet Samuel was preaching to a group of Nephites. They knew the gospel and had turned away from it.

So he reminded them, “Whosoever perisheth, perisheth unto himself.” In other words, we choose whether or not we will prepare ourselves for eternal life. It’s not a mystery!

When we choose to enter into a covenant with Christ, we welcome His grace—His power—into our lives. That choice invites life and joy and peace.

Now obviously, sometimes we won’t make the right choice. But we can learn and grow through these experiences. Because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, He can help us repent of our bad choices and keep moving forward.

Sing a Song

Can you think of a hymn or Primary song about making good choices? Maybe that would be a good one to memorize!
