Explore the what, where, and how of this sacred practice.
When we “ponder,” we think sincerely about spiritual things—like God, His Son, and how we fit into His plan. Here are three things to keep in mind as you ponder:
- Ditch the distraction. Find a quiet time and place to think. Riding the bus, lying in bed at night, sitting in church before a meeting, or taking a walk in nature can all be opportunities to ponder.
- Remember the why. What questions or challenges are you pondering about? Stay focused, but be willing to go in a different direction if the Lord takes you there. Revelation sometimes comes in unexpected ways.
- Get ready to write. Have a paper and pen handy. Write down thoughts and impressions so you can keep track of them later.
These are all guidelines, not hard rules. There’s no single right way to ponder! The important thing is that you create a space in your heart and mind for God’s messages to get through.
