South America stretches from the Caribbean to the Antarctic seas.
This wonderful world that God created for us is divided into seven continents. Here are some fascinating facts about South America.
- South America is made up of 14 different countries. And many of them are big! Brazil and Argentina are among the 10 largest countries in the world.
- Most people in South America speak Spanish or Portuguese because of colonial influences from Spain and Portugal. There are many native languages, too, spoken by indigenous peoples.
- At the southernmost tip of South America, you’re less than 600 miles away from Antarctica! At the very northern tip of South America, you’re in the Caribbean Sea.
- The Church has 21 temples, 95 missions, and 4.2 million members in South America—more than any other continent except for North America.
