Scripture Connection: Lifted Up
Gospel Living

It was a sorrowful time for Mormon.

But he trusted it would be worth it in the end.

Scripture of the Day: “And wo is me because of their wickedness; for my heart has been filled with sorrow because of their wickedness, all my days; nevertheless, I know that I shall be lifted up at the last day.” —Mormon 2:19

Few people have had more reason to feel sorrow in this life than Mormon.

He was a great prophet who had personal interactions with God, yet he had to watch as almost everyone in his country fell into wickedness and war. Eventually his whole nation was destroyed, including the death of nearly everyone Mormon loved.

No one would blame Mormon for feeling discouraged!

But Mormon remembered what we all need to remember: If we are faithful, we will eventually “be lifted up to dwell in the kingdom prepared for [us] from the foundation of the world” (Ether 4:19).

Yes, life will have its share—and sometimes it will feel like more than its share—of sadness and sorrow.
But our Heavenly Father has promised us again and again that it will all be worth it in the end!

The joy we receive in the next life will more than outweigh the sorrow we feel here.

As Paul wrote, “I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18).
