When wars, natural disasters, and other crises happen around the world, it can be overwhelming to think about!
But these bad situations give us a lot of opportunities to do good things. One thing we can do is donate time and resources to humanitarian aid.
In some areas, JustServe.org can help you connect with service opportunities in your community. By taking care of our nearest neighbors, we free up resources to send extra help to those who live elsewhere. You could also donate to reputable organizations. Below are items these groups commonly ask for.
1. Money. You can give through:
- The Church’s humanitarian aid fund
- Regular tithes and fast offerings
- Organizations online or in your community. Do some research to make sure the organization is legitimate.
2. Non-perishable food, such as:
- Canned soups, fruits, and vegetables
- Packaged noodles
- Rice or pasta
3. Hygiene items, like:
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste
- Hairbrushes
- Feminine hygiene products
4. Clothes, including:
- Everyday shirts, pants, socks
- Warm coats
- Baby clothing
5. Emotional aids, such as:
- Books
- Toys
- Games
You can usually find specific “wish list” items on an organization’s website. And even if you can’t donate anything right now, you can always pray for peaceful solutions to conflicts and for the hearts of world leaders to be softened. Prayers carry real power.
So don’t stress about saving the whole world. Let’s just all do what we can. Our combined efforts will make a difference!
