Withstanding Satan’s Attacks

The devil tempts you.

But you’re powerful enough to resist!

Satan is tricky. Really tricky!

Instead of a fun magician who delights people with a harmless show, Satan is evil and wants to deceive us so that we become miserable like he is. For the next few days we’ll talk about his traps—and how to conquer them.

To start with, Satan loves to tempt us. He tries to convince us to choose uncleanness and unkindness.

But guess what? Satan is not stronger than you. And he’s certainly not more powerful than God! When you’re tempted you can try these things:

  • Pray and ask for strength to resist. Tell Satan to go away.
  • Surround yourself with wholesome music, books, and conversations. Use the good to push out the bad.
  • Leave or stop an activity if you realize the Spirit is not there.
  • Actively invite the Spirit and strengthen your soul. Read scriptures, pay attention at Church, and visit the temple.
  • Talk about your struggles with a faithful family member, leader, or friend you trust.

Check back tomorrow, when we’ll explore another one of the devil’s devices.

Plan Your Defense

What would help you withstand temptation the next time it comes your way? For example, you could memorize a hymn to sing.
