Some of Isaiah’s writings were for the people of his own day—for example, his warnings that if the Israelites didn’t repent, they’d be conquered by Babylon.
But Isaiah also wrote for people who lived after his time—like the words of comfort he wrote for the Jews who were living in captivity 150 years later because of the poor choices of their ancestors.
And get this—those beautiful words can apply to us today as well! We, too, are in “captivity” from our sins, weaknesses, and mistakes, and we need the Atonement of Jesus Christ to set us free. We, too, sometimes suffer the effects of other people’s poor choices and wonder if the Lord has forgotten us.
These promises apply to YOU:
- “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).
- “Be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee” (Isaiah 41:10).
- “They that strive [against] thee shall perish” (Isaiah 41:11).
- “Return unto me; for I have redeemed thee” (Isaiah 44:22).
- “I will carry, and will deliver you” (Isaiah 46:4).
The message that we can be forgiven for our sins, move past our mistakes, and find peace through the Savior applies to everyone in every age!
