Here’s what 2 Nephi 5 might’ve been like.

This is a pivotal and dramatic chapter in the Book of Mormon. It’s where the righteous followers of Nephi split off from their brethren, leading to a rivalry that would continue off and on (mostly on) for nearly a thousand years.

Here are a few other highlights:

  • Nephi is commanded to make the plates and engrave the words we’ve been reading.
  • His sisters are mentioned (see 2 Nephi 5:6).
  • Nephi laments his own shortcomings and prays to the Lord for deliverance. The Lord doesn’t let him down.

To Think About

Why do you think the Lord invited the righteous people to flee from the wicked, instead of forcing the wicked leave them alone?
