The Savior asked His disciples what they wanted to do after He was gone.
- Three of them wanted to keep ministering until the Second Coming.
- The other nine wanted to work for the rest of their natural lives, die, and rest in God’s kingdom.
Though different, these requests were both righteous.
You’re not a slacker for wanting to rest after your assignment is over! The Savior didn’t look at the nine and say, “Why can’t you be as dedicated as your brethren?”
The three were “more blessed” (3 Nephi 28:7) for choosing what you might call an “extra credit” mission—but the other nine were blessed, too.
Apart from the ordinances that are required of everyone (like baptism), there is a lot of variety in the things we can do to please the Lord. God might want you to take one path and your friend to take another, equally righteous path.
That’s why personal revelation is so important: It’s how you know what the Lord wants you to do.
