Let’s learn about Holi.

Holi is a Hindu festival sometimes called the Festival of Colors. It welcomes spring and represents the victory of good over evil. This year, Holi is on March 18.

Here’s what happens:

  • Celebrations start the night before with prayers and other religious rituals.
  • The next morning is the color festival, where people throw water and colored chalk on each other.
  • There’s music and dancing!
  • Afterward people share food and visit friends and family.

For Hindus, Holi is a day to forgive others and make amends for past wrongs. That’s why it’s at the start of spring; spring is a symbol of rebirth.

Members of our Church may not celebrate Holi, but it’s never a bad idea to think about forgiveness and reconnect with family. How does Jesus Christ offer us rebirth?

Fun Fact

For those in the northern hemisphere, Sunday, March 20 is the first day of spring. In the southern hemisphere, it’s the beginning of autumn!
