The Crucifixion

In the early hours of the morning, Jesus was taken to the high priest Caiaphas. The elders and chief priests made false accusations against Jesus, hoping to find reason to put Him to death. Peter followed, and he denied Jesus three times.

Jesus was then questioned by Pilate and King Herod. Christ was eventually sentenced to death by crucifixion. Soldiers whipped Him and put upon Him a crown of thorns and a robe to mock Him. They spat upon Him and hit Him and then took Him to Golgotha, where they crucified Him.

As He suffered on the cross, Jesus asked Heavenly Father to forgive the soldiers who crucified Him. He fulfilled His mortal mission and died that afternoon. The veil of the temple tore into two pieces. There was an earthquake. (See Matthew 27; Luke 23; Mark 15; John 19.)
