Do we recognize what we already hope, believe, and know?

Have you ever missed seeing something that was right in front of you? And once you did notice, it seemed like it should’ve been obvious? Truths about the gospel can be like that at times.

After Jesus was resurrected, He spent the afternoon walking and talking with two of His followers. They had listened to the teachings of Jesus, but now “their eyes were holden that they should not know him” (Luke 24:16).

As they walked, the disciples talked about this teacher they had followed, who they thought was going to save Israel. He had been crucified three days earlier, and now His body was missing! They’d heard reports of an angel saying this man was alive again. Could it be true?

These men obviously would have had no problem believing Jesus was resurrected if they had recognized Him standing right there in front of them! As it was, they were unsure—even though there had been many signs and prophecies of His resurrection.

Finally, after walking and talking and even eating with the Savior, they recognized Jesus Christ for who He was. They also realized that they had felt a difference in their heart while they had been with Him. If you’ve ever wondered whether or not you have a testimony, this story might be a good one to think about!
