Gospel Voice Alexa User Manual

Option 1: Enable the skill using your Alexa

device

1. On your Alexa-enabled device say, “Alexa, enable Gospel Voice.”

Option 2: Enable in the skill store

1. Sign in at alexa.amazon.com.
2. Enter email and password.
3. Once you have entered the dashboard, click on Skills from the left-hand menu.

4. After entering the Skills page, use the search bar to search “Gospel Voice.”

5. Click on the Gospel Voice search result.

6. Enable Gospel Voice by pressing the Enable button in the upper right-hand corner.

7. Please note that for Gospel Voice to function on your voice device, the account under which the Gospel Voice skill is enabled must be synced to your device.

1. Once your device is synced with the account in which the Gospel Voice skill is enabled, you must say, “Alexa, open Gospel Voice.”
2. After Gospel Voice is opened, Alexa will respond, “Welcome to Gospel Voice. You can listen to the scriptures; general conference talks; Come, Follow Me lessons; Saints Channel Radio; or explore music. What would you like to do?”

• User: “Alexa, open Gospel Voice.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Gospel Voice. You can listen to the scriptures; general conference talks; Come, Follow Me lessons; Saints Channel Radio; or explore music. What would you like to do?”
• User: “I want to listen to Saints Channel Radio.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Saints Channel Radio. You can hear music, talk stream, or Tabernacle Choir. Which would you like me to play?”

Option 1

• Note: Once Saints Channel Radio is accessed, Alexa will offer to stream the three radio stations available.
• Alexa: “Welcome to Saints Channel Radio. You can hear music, talk stream, or Tabernacle Choir. Which would you like me to play?”
• Option 1 - User: “Play music stream.”
• Option 2 - User: “I want to listen to Music station.”
• Option 3 - User: “Open Music station.”
• Alexa: “Here is music from Latter-day Saints Radio.”

Option 2

• User: “Alexa, tell Gospel Voice I want to listen to the music stream.”
• Alexa: “Here is music from Latter-day Saints Radio.”

Note: Once you have entered a radio station and want to switch to another one, you must first stop the skill by saying, “Alexa, stop.”

Option 1

• Note: Once Saints Channel Radio is accessed, Alexa will offer to stream the three radio stations available.
• Alexa: “Welcome to Saints Channel Radio. You can hear music, talk stream, or Tabernacle Choir. Which would you like me to play?”
• Option 1 - User: “Play talk.”
• Option 2 - User: “I want to listen to the Talk station.”
• Option 3 - User: “Open Talk station.”

Note: Once you have entered a radio station and want to switch to another one, you must first stop the skill by saying, “Alexa, stop.”

Accessing General Conference Stream

(during general conference season)

• User: “Alexa, I want to listen to the live general conference.” (You can also use other utterances like “Play the live general conference,” “Play general conference live,” “Play general conference stream,” “Begin the live general conference,” or “Give me the live general conference.”)
• Alexa: “Now streaming general conference.”

Option 1

• Note: Once Saints Channel Radio is accessed, Alexa will offer to stream the three radio stations available.
• Alexa: “Welcome to Saints Channel Radio. You can hear music, talk stream, or Tabernacle Choir. Which would you like me to play?”
• Option 1 - User: “Play Tabernacle music.”
• Option 2 - User: “I want to listen to Tabernacle Choir station.”
• Option 3 - User: “Open Tabernacle Choir.”
• Alexa: “Here is Tabernacle Choir music from Latter-day Saints Radio.”

Option 2

• User: “Alexa, tell Gospel Voice I want to listen to Tabernacle Choir.”
• Alexa: “Here is Tabernacle Choir music from Latter-day Saints Radio.”

Note: Once you have entered a radio station and want to switch to another one, you must first stop the skill by saying, “Alexa, stop.”

• Option 1 - User: “Alexa, pause.”
• Option 2 - User: “Alexa, stop.”
• Alexa: “Remember you can always resume anytime by saying ‘Alexa, resume’ to resume the stream.”

• User: “Alexa, resume.”
• Note: There is no response after requesting to resume.

Option 1 - Upon Entering Gospel Voice

• User: “Alexa, open Gospel Voice.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Gospel Voice. You can listen to the scriptures; general conference talks; Come, Follow Me lessons; Saints Channel Radio; or explore music. What would you like to do?”
• User: “Listen to the scriptures.”

Option 2 - Once Having Entered Scriptures

• User: “Alexa, tell Gospel Voice to open Scriptures.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Scriptures. You can ask me to read a chapter from a book of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price, and the Doctrine and Covenants. For example, you can say, ‘Alexa, read Genesis chapter one.’ What book and chapter would you like me to read?”
• User: “I want to read Genesis chapter one from the Old Testament.”
• Alexa: “Chapter one from Genesis in the Old Testament.”

Option 3 - Outside of the

skill (also

known as “one-shot request”)

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to read Genesis chapter one.”
• Alexa: “Chapter one from Genesis in the Old Testament.”

Requesting Chapter and Verses

Gospel Voice has the ability to find scriptures by verse.

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play Scriptures.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Scriptures. You can ask me to read a chapter from a book of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price, and the Doctrine and Covenants. For example, you can say, ‘Alexa, read Genesis chapter one.’ What book and chapter would you like me to read?”
• User: “Play Alma, chapter 2, verse 4, from the Book of Mormon.”
• Alexa: “Chapter 2, verse 4, from the Book of Mormon.”

Gospel Voice has the ability to find scriptures by range of verses.

User : “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play Scriptures.”

Alexa : “Welcome to Scriptures. You can ask me to read a chapter from a book of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Pearl of Great Price, and the Doctrine and Covenants. For example, you can say, ‘Alexa, read Genesis chapter one.’ What book and chapter would you like me to read?”

User: “Play Alma, chapter 2, verses 4 to 8, from the Book of Mormon.”

Alexa: “Chapter 2, verses 4 to 8, from the Book of Mormon.”

Request Next Chapter

• [For example, if Genesis chapter one is currently being played]
• User: “Alexa, next.”null(Note: To move forward, the only commands that can be used are “Next,” “Skip,” or “Skip forward.”)

Request Previous Chapter

• [For example, if Genesis chapter two is currently being played]
• User: “Alexa, previous.” (Note: To move back, the only commands that can be used are “Go back,” “Skip back,” “Back up,” or “Previous.”)

Request to Stop

• User: “Alexa, stop.”null(Note: You can also say “Pause.”)
• Alexa: “OK, remember you can resume anytime by saying, ‘Alexa, resume.’”

Request Next Chapter

• [If a user returns to Gospel Voice after listening to a scripture—for example, Genesis chapter one]
• User: “Alexa, next.”null(Note: To move forward, the only commands that can be used are “Next,” “Skip,” or “Skip forward.”)
• Alexa: “Welcome back to Gospel Voice. You last listened to Genesis chapter one. Would you like me to repeat that chapter or go to the next chapter?”
• User: “Next chapter.”
• Alexa: “Chapter two from Genesis in the Old Testament.”

Request Previous Chapter

• [If a user returns to the skill after listening to a scripture—for example, Genesis chapter two]
• User: “Alexa, go back.” (Note: To move back, the only commands that can be used are “Go back,” “Skip back,” “Back up,” or “Previous.”)
• Alexa: “Welcome back to Gospel Voice. You last listened to Genesis chapter two. Would you like me to repeat that chapter or go to the next chapter?”
• User: “Go back.”
• Alexa: “Chapter one from Genesis in the Old Testament.”

Request to Repeat

• [If a user requests to repeat a chapter after having listened to Genesis chapter one]
• User: “Alexa, repeat the chapter.”
• Alexa: “Chapter one from Genesis in the Old Testament.”

Note: Users will be able to listen to general conference live only during the first Saturday and Sunday of April and the first Saturday and Sunday of October.

Option 1

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play the live general conference.”
• Alexa: “OK, now streaming general conference.”

Option 2

• User: “Alexa, open Gospel Voice.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Gospel Voice. You can listen to the scriptures; general conference talks; Come, Follow Me lessons; Saints Channel Radio; or explore music. What would you like to do?”
• User: “General conference.”
• Alexa: “Would you like to listen to general conference live, or would you like to listen to past talks?”
• User: “General conference live.” [This command will take you to the general conference live.]
• Alexa: “OK, now streaming general conference.”

Option 3

• Gospel Voice can trigger the general conference feature at any point.
• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice, ‘How do I use this skill?’”
• Alexa: “With this skill, everyone can enjoy content from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at any time from a voice device. I can help you listen to Saints Channel Radio; help you with scriptures; general conference; weekly Come, Follow Me lessons; or music.”
• For help with any of these features, please say something like “Help me with scriptures” or “How do I play a radio station?”
• Alexa: “What do you need help with?”
• User: “Please play general conference live.” [This command will trigger the general conference feature.]
• Alexa: “Now streaming general conference.”

Gospel Voice can find past talks when general conference is not ongoing.

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play a general conference talk.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to general conference. OK, here is what I can do for you: I can recommend the latest talks, help you search for a specific talk, or help you discover more things to do. What would you like to do?”

Option 1: Hear the Latest Talk Recommendations

Gospel Voice can help the user find what to listen to by recommending the latest talks available.

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play past talks.”
• Alexa: “OK, here is what I can do for you: I can recommend the latest talks, help you search for a specific talk, or help you discover more things to do. What would you like to do?”
• User: “Recommend the latest talks.”
• Alexa: “OK, here are three talks from the April 2020 general conference that you might like:
  
  • ‘Opening Message,’ by Russell M. Nelson
  • ‘Shall We Not Go On in So Great a Cause?’ by M. Russell Ballard

Option 2: Search for Specific Talks

Gospel Voice can help the user search for a specific talk.

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play past talks.”
• Alexa: “OK, here is what I can do for you: I can recommend the latest talks, help you search for a specific talk, or help you discover more things to do. What would you like to do?”
• User: “Help me search for a specific talk.”
• Alexa: “Let’s start searching for talks. You can search by speaker, by year and month, by session, or by topic. How would you like to start your search?”

Gospel Voice can help users find a talk by speaker, year and month, session, or topic.

Users can say:

• “Search by speaker.”
• “Search by year and month.”
• “Search by session.”
• “Search by topic.”

Gospel Voice can help the user search for specific talks by providing the name of a speaker.

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play past talks.”

Option 2: All Talks from a Specific Speaker from a Specific General Conference

• User: “Alexa, tell Gospel Voice I want to listen to President Russell M. Nelson in the April 2020 general conference.”

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play the latest talk by President Russell M. Nelson.”

Option 1: Request a Random Talk from a Specific Speaker

• User: “Alexa, tell Gospel Voice to play a random talk by Russell M. Nelson.”

Option 2: Request a Random Talk from a Specific Speaker from a Specific General Conference

• User: “Alexa, tell Gospel Voice to play a random talk by Russell M. Nelson in the April 2020 general conference.”
• Alexa: “‘Go Forward in Faith,’ by Russell M. Nelson from the April 2020 general conference.”

Option 3: Request a Random Talk

Note: Gospel Voice can provide a random talk without receiving any data.

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play a random general conference talk.”

Option 4: Request a Random Talk from a Specific General Conference

Option 1:

Gospel Voice can provide lessons by week requested in a one-shot request. It can also provide lessons for a present week in a one-shot request.

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play this week’s lesson.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Come, Follow Me resources for learning and teaching the gospel. Here is this week’s lesson: Come, Follow Me—For Individuals and Families: Book of Mormon 2020 study materials for the week of March 15.”

Option 2:

Gospel Voice can provide lessons of future weeks in a one-shot request.

• User: “Alexa, ask Gospel Voice to play next week’s lesson.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Come, Follow Me resources for learning and teaching the gospel. Here is the lesson of the week of March 22.”

Option 3:

Gospel Voice can provide lessons of future weeks in a one-shot request.

• User: “Alexa, open Saints book on Gospel Voice.”
• Alexa: “Welcome to Saints book. Which volume and chapter would you like to listen to?”
• User: “Play volume 1, chapter 26.”

Option 2: Continuing Listening to

Saints

The skill can start where you left off if you did not finish listening to an entire chapter.

• User: “Alexa, open Saints book on Gospel Voice.”
• Alexa: “You were listening to volume 1, chapter 26. Would you like to continue where you left off?”
• User: “Yes, please.”
• Alexa: “OK, now playing volume 1, chapter 26, from Saints.”
