Lesson 14

“For a Wise Purpose”

“Lesson 14: ‘For a Wise Purpose’” Book of Mormon Class Member Study Guide (1999), 9

  • How did Enos describe his prayer to the Lord? (See Enos 1:2.) What does his account of seeking forgiveness teach you about repenting? What does the account teach you about prayer?

  • How can we “offer [our] whole souls as an offering” to the Savior? (Omni 1:26).

  • What did Mormon say was the purpose of the entire sacred record he was abridging? (See Words of Mormon 1:2, 8; see also the title page of the Book of Mormon.) Why is it important to read the Book of Mormon with this purpose in mind?

Suggestion for Family Discussion

Explain that the writers of the books of Enos, Jarom, and Omni were commanded to preserve and add to the record of their people. Latter-day Saints have also been counseled to keep personal and family histories. If you have access to the journal of an ancestor, read some of the entries as a family. Discuss the importance of keeping personal journals and family histories.
