In December 1839 the Prophet Joseph Smith traveled to Washington, DC, and met with U.S. President Martin Van Buren requesting  his intercession in the treatment of the Saints in Missouri.  Historians Ron Barney and Jeffrey Cannon discuss this trip and the outcome of this historic meeting.
