Balm of Gilead

Painting of Christ in white, with a shawl covering His head, standing by a small tree. He has a small girl in a brown tunic pressed to His side. At His feet is a young man with a beard in a blue tunic kneeling. The man's head is bowed and he holds the hem of Christ's robe to him lips. The vertical sides of the frame are an embossed floral design in gold. The top of the canvas is arched. The lower edge of the image has the following passage carved into the surface , "O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay thy stones with fair colours (Isaiah 54:11), and I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee (2 Kings 20:5)."
