This film, though not a complete chronological account of the life of Jesus Christ, is a selection of teachings and events from His ministry as recorded in the New Testament. It has been produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to share our witness that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, the Savior of all mankind.
Master, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
Peace.
Be still.
What manner of man is this that even the winds and the seas obey him?
I have pondered those words, for our faith was weak. Surely you do not fancy this Jesus more than other men. It is mere coincidence, nothing more. Thomas, you must excuse my wife's brother; he does not share our belief. I do not believe that which I cannot see. And what of faith Jonah? Faith. Faith or mere wanting to believe. Must faith always be blind? Without faith, Jonah, even seeing is not enough. But you saw with your own eyes. And I am not alone. There were many who witnessed for themselves. And we have the words of the prophets.
"Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall called his name Emanuel." [SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE] "For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of dry ground.
And when we shall see him there is no beauty that we should desire him. He came unto his own and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God even to them to who believe on his name." I have need to be baptized of Thee. Suffer it to be so now, for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness.
[? Jeshua, ?] I baptize thee-- And when he was baptized he came up straightway out of the water.
It must have been wonderful to actually see His face and hear His voice. It is easy to talk a faith when you have not felt the emptiness of doubt. What is faith, Father? Faith is--
faith is knowing that good will come of whatever happens to us. My Rachel had such faith, and what good came to her?
Perhaps faith is not faith, Jonah, until it has been tried.
Faith. It seems that is always the answer. So tell us, Thomas, what is it about this Jesus that cause so many to believe in Him? Jonah, Jesus had the ability to perceive the thoughts in the hearts of men.
If I may touch but His clothes I shall be whole.
Who touched my clothes? Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, who touched me?
Daughter, be of good comfort. Thy faith have made thee whole.
Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister.
And whosoever will be chief among you, let him to be your servant, even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto but to minister.
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you that ye should go and bring forth fruit.
Tell us of the miracles. There were many miracles, Miriam, all of them wrought by faith.
{SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE]
I say unto thee, arise.
The blind received their sight.
The ears of the death were opened. The lame walked. The poor had the gospel preached unto them.
Lord, if Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean.
I will.
Be thou clean.
Clean.
He gave us an example that we should follow in His footsteps.
Not everyone that sayeth unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. But he that doeth the will of my Father, which is in heaven.
Make way.
I beseech Thee, look upon my son, for he is my only child. And though a spirit taketh him, if Thou canst do anything, have compassion on us. If thou canst believe all things are possible. Oh, I believe.
Help Thou my unbelief.
Be thou healed.
He preached deliverance to the captives, and healed the broken hearted.
Such things must surely offer hope to those in darkness. And what of His teachings? Tell us more of His words. Indeed his words were with power, for he taught as one having authority, and his teachings caused our hearts to burn within us. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn, for they should be comforted.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give ye rest. Here we are. What is your name?
Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Oh my.
Coming, He's coming.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, Thou son of David. Believe ye that I'm able to do this? Yea, Lord. According to your faith be it unto you.
Lord, how can we know the way? I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me.
Where is he? This is the lad. May I share thy bread? Yes.
I am the bread of life. He that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. Surely he was the Son of God, as they say. How could anyone claim to know such things? We believe it, Jonah. Rachel believed it also.
Rachel is dead, and all your talk of faith cannot bring her back to me.
With God nothing is impossible, Jonah, though some things must first be believed.
What is that?
Be of good cheer; it is I. Be not afraid.
Son, be of good cheer, thy sins be forgiven thee. This man speaks blasphemies. Who can forgive sin but God alone?
Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? For whether it is easier to say thy sins be forgiven thee or to say arise and walk? But that ye may know that Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins, arise, take up thy bed and go into thine house.
What men of you, having 100 sheep, if he lose one of them doth not leave 99 in the wilderness and go after that which is lost until he find it? And when he have found it he layeth it on his shoulders rejoicing. The Son of Man has gone to save that which was lost. No. Make way. Step aside. Move aside.
Master, this woman was taken in adultery. Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. What sayest thou?
He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Woman, where are those, thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?
No man, Lord.
Neither do I condemn thee. Go, and sin no more.
Lord. Lord, if Thou hadst been here my brother had not died.
Yet I know, even now, that whatsoever Thou shalt ask of God, God will give it thee. Thy brother shall rise again.
Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard me.
Lazarus, come forth.
[UNINTELLIGIBLE] Let him go.
I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.
Why do the people not believe him? I don't know.
They say he suffered for our sins.
Tell us, how can that be?
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from me. So Christ was offered to bear the sins of many. The blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Are Thou the Christ, the Son of God?
I am.
Art thou a king then? To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world.
Behold the lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world.
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows.
He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. And with his stripes, we are healed.
He was despised and rejected of men. A man of sorrows and acquainted with grace.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son. Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.
Father, into Thy hands I commend my Spirit.
So much for miracles. He helped others but he could not help himself. He died for us Jonah, but he rose again as he promised. He did live again. Did he not, Thomas? You know.
Yes. Such notions may be appealing to some, but unless I can see the print of the nails in his hands for myself, I cannot believe. And if you did, would it be enough?
Perhaps not.
I did see, Jonah. I did see.
I have witnessed for myself.
Woman, why weepest thou? Tell me where thou has laid him and I will take him away. Mary.
Master.
Touch me not, for I am not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father and to your Father, and to my God and your God.
The others told me they had seen the Lord, but I doubted.
I could not believe.
Is it true, Peter? James, did he truly come? [UNINTELLIGIBLE] Good to see you.
Peace be unto you.
Thomas, reach hither thy finger and behold my hands, and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side, and be not faithless but believing.
My Lord and my God.
Thomas, because Thou hast seen me Thou hast believed.
Blessed are they that have not seen and yet have believed.
Almost. I wish I could believe. You can, Jonah. You can.
And because he lives we too shall live. All of us. All of us.
There were also many other the things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written, everyone, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. But these are written that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through his name.
