The principle of learning how to set goals and objectives is absolutely critical. You can learn to set monthly goals, weekly goals, daily goals, or even when you're tracting, you can have hourly goals that you set together. You're not just going through the day hoping something will happen. You go through the day with an objective that you have defined in your companion study where you sat together and said, We want to accomplish the following things. We're going to make this happen. As you master setting goals, you can achieve great things.

These goals should be challenging. They should be hard, but realistic. If they don't challenge you, then you'll never grow, and nothing will change. You must push yourself. On the page to the left it talks about how to set goals. Could you read the first paragraph? Goals reflect the desires of our hearts and our vision of what we can accomplish. Through goals and plans our hopes are transformed into action. Goal setting and planning are acts of faith. Prayerfully set goals that are in harmony with the Savior's command to Teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Based on this paragraph, why is it important to set goals? Through goals our hopes become action. Goals are important because you're showing your desires of how many people you want to teach, or how many people you want to contact. You show a lot of faith when you write down a number that's bigger than you have had previously. We look at our goals and write down specifically what we want to do to help us accomplish them to achieve our purpose as missionaries. If we look at previous weeks and see what we have done, we can say we have contacted ten referrals. If we have done that for a few weeks, then we know we can do it. You need faith to set the goal even higher. Maybe set it at 12 or 13. Goals are a means of helping you bring about much good among Heavenly Father's children. They are not to be used to receive recognition. Each lesson we teach is to a person. We're teaching the person in order to help them progress. What do you understand about setting goals? Follow the Spirit, and set goals that are difficult but not impossible. Setting goals helps us so that we have something to work towards. If we set a goal to find someone and help prepare them to be baptized within the next few weeks, then we can search for specific people. A goal for new investigators next week. I think six is a good goal. Yes, I think we'll have two with Brother Lindberg's referrals. Setting goals is important to missionary work. If we don't set goals, then we aren't working towards anything. When we set goals, we have specific people in mind with each goal. We can call our dinner appointments on Tuesday and say, Who can you invite to dinner when we come? That will be more productive. Maybe we can find people that way. Goals reflect desires, hopes, and dreams, and the only way to make these goals a reality is through planning. I just thought of something. What about the Huntsman's neighbor? We need to talk to her again. She was going to invite her to have the lessons. We'll talk to her on Saturday to see if she can invite them to church Sunday.

Okay. New investigators next week. -Keep the goal six? -Yes. You need to be committed to setting goals. If you're not committed to the goal, or don't believe you can do it, or if it's impossible, then there's no point in setting it. Both members of the companionship need to agree on the goal. Brother Scott, what happens when two missionaries have a really powerful relationship as compansions, decide they're going to do something, and then invoke the power of heaven, and ask the Lord to help them? What can happen to them, in your experience? They have the experience we have as the quorum of the twelve. Somebody can talk about doing something forever and nothing happens. When you set a goal, an objective, and begin to work to it, then the Spirit comes in and gives guidance. You have some concrete idea of what you're going to do and you've got something to measure against to know how well you're doing. Not only will you and your companion work better together, but you'll be reinforced by the guidance of the Spirit.
