I had just been released from another mission. And my husband and I were serving for the inner city mission, and I got a phone call from the employment center asking if we both wanted to serve again. But my husband has a full-time job, and he couldn't do it. But I was willing to. So I went to the employment center, and I got an application. I took it to my bishop, and I was called to serve there. They don't have to be someone who's coming in and has got a lot of experience in working with employment issues. It's from their life's experiences that brings the value. And that's the fun thing about it, is watching them come in with very limited experience and utilizing what they've been given from their Heavenly Father--those talents and skills and abilities that are developed. I love the feeling there. The people that work there, they have such a nice spirit.

There's no gossip. No bad language is used; not like you encounter in some other jobs. This is just wonderful. It's a blessing to be there working at the employment center. Right now, we're seeing also an increased number of people coming in who have limited language skills. And so having those missionaries that know another language is of great benefit as well. And so--like for example with Sister Siller, being bilingual as she is--it's a tremendous thing to see somebody who can utilize her skills from her language experiences. Service is a wonderful thing. As a matter of fact, my husband will be retiring this year, by the end of this year, and we're planning on serving a full-time mission if we can. So those are our plans. Let's hope that we can do it. Of course, I was supposed to be released from this mission, but I already asked for an extension. And I'm going to be working there for another 12 more months, because I really, really like to serve.

Life Experience Prepares Us to Serve

Description
Sister Siller wanted to serve a mission even though her husband was still working full time. She found that she could serve a Church-service mission now while she prepared for a full-time senior mission with her husband later.
