I never had any kind of relationship with God. I never knew-- if somebody had asked me if I believed in Jesus Christ, I would have said yes, but it would have just been unsubstantiated. I didn't have any knowledge of it and certainly no testimony of it, anything like that. But joining the Church and being taught that I can actually talk to God through my prayers and that He listens and that He knows me and that I actually know Him and I can actually speak to Him-- and I truly know that now-- was such an amazing realization and change in my life. I prayed as a young kid, but I prayed these rote prayers again. I didn't pray until these adult years, well into my 30s, knowing that God was listening and that I can go to Him and thank Him for so much and go to Him when I have trials and troubles and ask for help and have that help given to me. Doug and his wife, Debbie Jo, live in Charlottesville, Virginia, with their three children. Doug and Debbie Jo were baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in June 2002.
