I did believe there was a God, but I didn't really know what the meaning of Him was in my life. I didn't know what role He played in my life. And once I started going to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, it all kind of made sense, and I felt like the God that they were talking about was the God that I was supposed to know. I think I still have a lot to learn about Him, but I can say that it's been confirmed to me that He does know me personally, which I wasn't aware of before.
