I love to eat. For years-- I mean, it just wasn't a problem. I just ate whatever. The older I got, the busier I became, and I knew I was gaining weight. Finally, I think it was 260 pounds. And I was mortified. I just sat there thinking, I'm not happy. I'm miserable. I committed right then I was going to start exercising, and I was going to start eating right. I committed to running a marathon, and it was a painful journey, but upon completing that first marathon, I felt a sense of accomplishment. And I committed to running 100 marathons. The Lord wants us to take care of our bodies. There's some things that we shouldn't do, not drinking tea and coffee or alcohol and not smoking. But He's also provided instruction for things that we should do, eating fruits and vegetables and grains and taking care of our bodies. And we follow this. It's called the Word of Wisdom. All the information that I needed to get back on track is right there. I committed to following it closely. This instruction is ingrained into my life now. Some of the things warned about in the Word of Wisdom take over your freedom and the choices that you're able to make. I was addicted to food. I wasn't able to look past it at times. Being healthy and living the gospel go together. I've seen an increase in blessings in my life, and I feel closer to my Father in Heaven. I've run 60 marathons, and I'm going to run 100 marathons.
