This is a story about how ward council members in Guatemala City worked together to rescue a less-active family. Every member of the Church plays a role in the rescue effort, but ward council members have the special calling and opportunity to lead that work under the direction of the bishop, who holds priesthood keys. The ward council is called by the Lord to use their gifts, talents, and experience and to lead a priesthood quorum or auxiliary in rescuing families and individuals. As you watch this story, think about these questions: How does the bishop feel about his ward council, and how does he use them? In what ways are the ward council members prepared to reach out, and how do the family members respond?

The Savior taught that His gospel is like water. It sustains the spiritual life of God's children. Indeed, the Savior said, "Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst." For over a century, this aqueduct carried water to the people of Guatemala City. Under the direction of the bishopric, members of the ward council stand side by side to bring the life-giving gospel of Christ to all of God's children, especially the less active.

And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely." As members of the ward council work together, they help new and returning members drink deeply of the waters of life and live.

Pause to reflect on what you have learned. You may want to begin by reviewing these questions: How does the bishop feel about his ward council, and how does he use them? In what ways are the ward council members prepared to reach out, and how do the family members respond?

To prepare to learn, begin by identifying a less-active family in your ward or branch.

Ask yourself, "What can I do personally to help this less-active family? What can my presidency do? From the members of our ward, who else can we enlist to help us?"
