Abraham and his wife, Sarah, were childless.

When Abraham was 99 years old, the Lord appeared unto him. I am the Almighty God. Walk before me and I will make my covenant between me and thee, for a father of many nations have I made thee. And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee. Sarah, thy wife, shall bear thee a son indeed. Sarah did bear a son to Abraham, and he called his name Isaac. God kept His covenant with Abraham, and he kept his covenant with God.
