The child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him. And it came to pass when Eli was laid down in his place, the Lord called to Samuel. Samuel.

Here am I, for thou calledst me. I called not; lie down again.

Samuel.

Twice more, Samuel heard the voice and went unto Eli. Here am I, for thou didst call me.

Samuel, go lie down. If He calls again, say, Speak, Lord, for Thy servant heareth.

Samuel. Samuel. Speak, for Thy servant heareth.

And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him. And all Israel knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.
