[PIANO] Good, Jenny, good. Now, let's get started on this recital piece. Here it is. Look at it carefully; take it slowly.

[BEGINS PLAYING "FUR ELISE" SLOWLY, WITH MISTAKES]

OK, Alan-- you've got to have a lot more practice before the recital. This is a tape of your number. Try listening to this as you practice. This is the way it's supposed to sound. [TAPE RECORDING] [PLAYING "FUR ELISE" WITH METRONOME]

[BUZZER] [KNOCKING ON DOOR] Alan! Alan! You're supposed to be practicing the piano. You have less than a month to get ready for the recital. I don't want to be in a stupid recital. You're not getting out of it, young man. You agreed to this when you started lessons, so get up and get practicing. Don't worry about it, Mom. I'll do it after school.

[METRONOME] [SLOWLY PLAYING] [MAKES MISTAKE] [GOES ON] Alan, I'm leaving now. Don't forget to practice. OK, Mom. I'll do some key work while you're gone. Top of the key. Championship game. Down by one.

And he wins the championship! ["FUR ELISE," SLOWLY, WITH SOME MISTAKES]

[SPED UP A LITTLE] ["TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR," IN FRUSTRATION]

Alan!

["FUR ELISE" AGAIN] ["FUR ELISE," MUCH IMPROVED] ["FUR ELISE" AGAIN] Alan! That sounds nice!

[PIANO] You ready? Hardly. How about you? Yeah. Where's your music? I've got it memorized. Wow. How long did that take? About an hour a day for the last month. Whew.

["FUR ELISE," FAINTLY] Good luck. I'm going to need a lot more than that.
