When I see the joy in kid's faces and the opportunity that I get to teach these important concepts to children, it's just a wonderful thing for me. Craig Rohde, designer of a new hands-on exhibit at the Church History Museum in Salt Lake City, Utah, invites children of all ages to learn about Latin American culture and the Book of Mormon, beginning with Lehi's tent. Well, we chose the tent because the Book of Mormon actually starts pretty much with Lehi and his family leaving Jerusalem. And they spent quite a bit of their life before they left for the New World in a tent. They were in this house. And if they were bad the Liahona wouldn't work. And if they were good then the Liahona would work. The next stop leads to a boat representing the ship Nephi and his family used for passage to the promised land. They help and learn, maybe experience a little building the boat. We have a puzzle wall, we call it, that they help put together a little section of the boat. So they're make-believing they're Nephi. Brother Rohde maximized the space available. The space is limited. We had to have some other medium to get a lot more stories. And so the interactive television screens are just a great way to do that. On the touch screen I like doing matching games and mazes. Large building blocks create a fun activity while teaching an important lesson. Before Christ came to America there were the earthquakes and all of the happenings. And of course the buildings broke. And we decided that we would get the blocks, and as they're spread out helter skelter on the floor, it does look like a destruction. And it kind of adds to the ambience. But the neat thing is after Christ came the people got together and they built together. And so it allows the children to actually start building structures. We had them knocked over and we had to figure out how to build them again. Craig Rohde also designed the Book of Mormon celebration so children could learn and interact with modern-day stories of faithful Latin American Saints. You live the teachings of the Book of Mormon. So you've read them, you've shared them, and now you go out into the world and you live those teachings. And so there's great stories that have come from the Ensign, most from the Children's Friend, and some that are from life stories. Yeah, they wore modest clothes cause the short skirt wasn't modest cause you have something going down further than to your knees. I liked the dancing. I liked-- I've learned almost the whole thing and since we did that so much more times I think I can do it at home. Employees of the Church History Museum built the children's exhibit completely in-house and will keep it open until January 6, 2013.
