The purposes of the young single adult program are to identify, locate, and shepherd young single adults; create opportunities for them to associate together; help prepare them for temple marriage and raising righteous families; and support them in making important life decisions. [MUSIC PLAYING] These young single adults are sons and daughters of God, and they're very special sons and daughters of God. And the Lord has charged us with looking after them.

The young single adult program is designed to strengthen testimonies and help young single adults draw nearer to the Lord. Stake, ward, and young single adult leaders work continually to identify, locate, and shepherd young single adults who are new or less active in the Church. In this way, they help build the kingdom of God.

It's nice to try and get them out to institute and try to keep an eye on them, because they do drop off the radar. And they can fall away quite easily without that strength. And so just trying to befriend them and keep in contact with them and encourage them and let them know that they can ask you anything is always a good start. I really do worry about the social life that is expected of them through their work or through their student life. We don't want to compete with that. But I do feel we need to go some way to replace that if we're expecting them to sacrifice the majority of their social life outside church in preference to the good life that we show them within the gospel. Leaders create opportunities for young single adults to associate together in meaningful service, gospel learning, and social activities.

We just make sure that we're willing to meet up as often as we can, whether it's planned in advance or just on the spur of the moment. So the reason behind all of that is to make sure that the young single adults, my peers, have a safe place to come away from the way that the world would have us entertained, and have a safe environment where you can be spiritual together, where you can have fun together, where there's no pressure to involve yourself in something that is against your standards. I think we all do many things that help fulfill the purpose of the YSA. We do activities together. We do spiritual things together. We have some fun. And then we also try and get to see how we can help each other. Doing that basically helps support us, and our faith is strengthened. And we basically help each other out in this journey of life. Church Handbook 2 teaches, "A central purpose of these activities is to help young single adults find marriage partners and prepare to marry in the temple and raise righteous families." Hopefully, the friendships that you build are grounded on something a bit more firm. And obviously, out of all of this, we want people to meet up and to find eternal companions. For every young single adult in our ward, I really, really hope that they know that their God, their Heavenly Father loves them, that they have a Savior that loves them, that the Holy Ghost is there to help and guide them in whatever difficulties they might be in or decisions they might need to make. And if they feel that, that will help them, ultimately, to achieve the goal of marriage in a temple and to receive all the blessings that we know that are associated with that great, great ordinance.

Leaders support young single adults in fulfilling worthy personal goals and in making decisions about education, careers, finances, and marriage.

These young people are the future mothers and fathers of the next generations. And so we have to get it right with them. We're always told that this is a vital step in our life, and we always make a lot of important decisions. And some of those decisions might be what kind of habits we might develop for the rest of our life. The young single adult program has completely altered my life. It has provided so much strength to me, and support. It's so important to associate with other young single adults who are your age, who are going through your experience, who are living in your time, because they are the ones who are succeeding against the adversary. They are the ones who are building the Church. [SPEAKING PORTUGUESE]
