[MUSIC PLAYING] As Sunday School leaders work to improve learning and teaching in the ward, they meet regularly to counsel together in presidency meeting. The Sunday School president presides at the meeting and conducts it. Agendas follow the four principles outlined for Sunday School presidency meetings in Church Handbook 2. Watch as Brother Castenera and Brother Arturo follow these principles as they counsel together about Sunday School matters in their ward.

First, the Handbook teaches that when Sunday School leaders meet together, they read and discuss the scriptures and the words of the living prophets.

As they study the doctrines of the gospel together, they relate what they learn to their own callings.

[SPEAKING SPANISH] Second, when leaders meet together, they discuss the effectiveness of Sunday School classes. [SPEAKING SPANISH] As they consider each class, they think about how to help teachers and class members improve. [SPEAKING SPANISH] Third, Sunday School presidencies plan ways to respond to requests to help other priesthood or auxiliary organizations improve learning and teaching. [SPEAKING SPANISH] As they consider each opportunity to help, they counsel about how to meet the needs of those they serve.

[SPEAKING SPANISH] Finally, when Sunday School leaders meet together, they review attendance records and make plans to visit ward members who aren't attending.

[SPEAKING SPANISH] As Sunday School leaders conduct presidency meetings, they read the scriptures and the words of the living prophets, discuss Sunday School classes and opportunities for improvement, plan to help other ward organizations improve learning and teaching, and review attendance records to make plans to reach out to others. When they follow these simple principles, the Spirit of the Lord helps presidency members know what to do to teach and minister to Heavenly Father's children. Learning and teaching improves throughout the ward. Testimonies are strengthened, and lives are blessed. This is why leaders counsel together in Sunday School presidency meetings.

In this example, you saw Sunday School leaders in Guatemala City exemplify Handbook principles for conducting Sunday School presidency meetings.

The Handbook teaches that when Sunday School leaders meet together, they read and discuss the scriptures and other doctrinal teachings, discuss the effectiveness of Sunday School classes to consider ways to improve, plan ways to help other ward organizations improve learning and teaching as requested, and review attendance records to make plans to reach out to Church members in need.

As you prepare for an upcoming presidency meeting, consider this model and how it may help your presidency receive the guidance of the Spirit to improve learning and teaching in your ward. You may also want to consider these questions: Why should we study the gospel together as a presidency?

How can we improve learning and teaching throughout our ward?

Who in our ward needs to be visited and invited to return to Sunday School?
