Church Handbook 2 teaches, "The purpose of the Young Women organization is to help each young woman be worthy to make and keep sacred covenants and receive the ordinances of the temple." To accomplish this, Young Women presidencies counsel together, teach the gospel, and provide opportunities for young women to apply gospel principles through Sunday lessons, mutual activities, and Personal Progress.

The ward Young Women presidency works with parents and priesthood leaders to help each young woman prepare for the temple and become true followers of Christ. They accomplish this as they fulfill the following responsibilities: counsel together, teach the gospel, and provide opportunities to apply gospel principles. Leaders counsel together to discuss the needs of the young women they serve and to plan ways to meet those needs. This planning occurs in regular Young Women presidency meetings with the president, counselors, and secretary.

As presidency members plan to meet the needs of the young women, they counsel together with the ward council and when necessary, to seek support from other ward leaders. [SPEAKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE]

As a member of the ward council, the Young Women president not only represents the young women but works with council members to build spiritual strength and unity in the entire ward.

The ward Young Women presidency also guides class presidencies in counseling together to meet the needs of the young women. The Young Women president works with the Laurels, the first counselor with Mia Maids, and the second counselor with the Beehives. The president and her counselors attend class presidency meetings, where they help the young women learn and apply leadership principles. [SPEAKING SPANISH]

Leaders also help class presidents prepare to participate and counsel together in the monthly bishopric youth committee held under the direction of the bishop.

The Young Women presidency oversees efforts to teach the gospel to the young women. They lead and train any called advisers in this effort and involve class presidencies in engaging all young women in the lesson. They strive to create an environment where the Spirit of the Lord can be present and young women can receive answers to their important questions.

The Young Women presidency seeks to provide opportunities for the young women to apply gospel principles. One of the places this can occur is at weekly mutual activities. Here youth develop spiritually, socially, physically, and intellectually.
