Theoretically I shouldn't be here. I should be dead or continuing to still be in prison for things that I've done.

If we are to profess to be a Christian people, I can't think of any better place to practice Christianity than bringing people who've really been lost and bringing them back into the fold.

November 18th of 2007 I was arrested climbing out the window of my home. At that point in time I realized that there was something better in life. I never thought that I could ever be forgiven. When I went to jail, I got down on my hands and knees and asked if God was real to intervene in my life and take over. I went to prison for 18 months. In that time I was in prison I was invited to go to church by one of the other inmates. And we went to church the first Sunday and he never went after that. And from then on it was every Sunday I went. They had LDS substance abuse classes that come in there and then they have the family home evening program that comes in and we have an LDS institute. All of these things played a big part of my life. As Peter and I talked, you could feel that he really was impacted by not only the gospel, which had changed his life for the better, but by those people who would serve there in the prison. Today I really understand what the Atonement means in my life. Peter was released from prison and came to the ward. Ten days later I was baptized. The first 90 days, typically, of our converts is critical, whether or not they're going to return to prison. In the first day that I went to church, I got up and told everybody in the congregation that I was just released from prison and nobody frowned on it or nothing. Everybody was there to help me become a stronger member of the Church and learn more about the gospel. In a word, it's rescue.

This last year, I was able to baptize my wife and my son. We're in the process of taking the temple classes so that we can go to the temple together and be married and be sealed together. [MUSIC]
